Formaldehyde free Brazilian Keratin
by Candice
(Surrey)
Some of the Brazilian keratin products offered in the US are formaldehyde free and work perfectly. I know because I have had it done and my hairdresser in the US is a distributor for a formaldehyde free product.
I have been bringing the product over to the UK and it is being used by a salon near Croydon in Surrey and taking off well with customers. The biggest problem we've found is finding a distributor of sodium chloride free shampoo!

And what product is that? Do you have a list of ingredients? Are you sure its Formaldehyde free?
Yes I have seen the product details on the bottle and have met the distributor who sells it to my contact in Florida. The product is not with me right now (it's in the salon) so I cannot confirm the exact ingredients.
It might be formaldehyde-free treatment, but there must be something else that straight the hair and it CAN'T be keratin. I just visited the FAQ section of the website mentioned here and on one point says:
Hi Anonymous
Of course it is not the Keratin doing the straightening. Formaldehyde-Free products use another aldehyde. Look at your MSDS, and check out the known irritants. ALL these products MUST be used with ventilation, and masks. Not ones for particulates, ones for gasses. Just like "no-Lye's" chemical cousins, these products require the same cautions as ones with formaldehyde.
Global keratin is the one we use in our salon, and we use the formaldehyde free one they have the products on the bottle. Hope this helped you
Well said. Keratin is a protein that cannot straighten hair. For straightening you must have formaldehyde or glutraldehyde(or glutral) or glyoxal. All of these compounds are from the same nasty aldehyde family and are regulated by FDA and REACH in Europe. Unfortunately, many small companies have sprung up to sell this type of products and they do not provide accurate information. To be safe and sure, you should get your products of this category checked or tested by an independent laboratory for the presence of aldehyde.
Totally agree with some of the comments given by pretty smart people. What consumers should keep in mind is that none of these companies are regulated and they can introduce whichever chemical they please into these products. KERATIN DOES PLAYS NO ROLE IN THE PROCESS OF STRAIGHTENING THE HAIR..........think about it before applying this product onto your hair.
Of course it does not straighten your hair its for FRIZZ FREE hair it gets rid of 80% of frizz, and its great no frizz in the summer anymore in fact anytime of year only thing is you cant wash it or put it in a ponytail of put it behind your ears for 3 days otherwise you,ll get a bend in the hair. I had the Global Keratin brand and love it.
Sorry to tell you - I just spoke with Global Keratin and they tell me they have 0.2% formaldehyde in their products. They say its past tests etc but at the end of the day its not chemical free
Grant, there is something wrong with your reasoning and logic.
There is a new Keratin straightener, just released on the market. It is natural, it provides straight frizz free hair until you wash it. Makes blowing out and flat ironing a breeze. Leaves hair soft and manageable. It's called Straight & Natural. It takes keratin from nature and does not change hair structure, effectively bonds to the outside of hair and keeps it straight. All chemically free.
