Gray Hair and Toners - Messed up hair

I recently went to a very prestigious hair salon because I needed someone who knew about color. I had been putting color on my new grown for years and it was ok until I decided to let my natural color grow out (gray) with a few more highlights. Well that ended up being a disaster since the stylist who did my hair at that time left the bleach on too long and my hair started to break off.

Now I was afraid to put color on my new growth, fear of more breakage. I let my hair grow for a few months and the gray in my hair was too much to bare so I went to this color specialist who proceeds to tell me what she was going to do and it sounded real good but when I got done I had warm new growth and cool rest of the hair which I feel makes me look drab. I think she put a toner on rest of my hair which was to cool down the warm color I had but why would she put a cool toner on the rest of my hair and leave the new growth warm. It looks odd.

I am a stylist myself but color is not my expertise. I am able to buy color at the supply houses and was wondering if you could tell me what I should do with the cool tones in my hair.
Sorry for the length of this letter but needed to explain. Hope you can help
Ingrid

I can not see your hair to tell you what to do exactly but if you have a sally beauty supply store around at least in my area they are very knowledgeable about color and color correction.
I, use preference by L'Oréal myself I, had to correct a salons mishap as well I, will not get my color at a salon again it turns out much better when I,do it. Anyway, If you have warm on top and cool tones on the rest of your hair you should use an all over color as we get older we need more warmth but you need to be careful as to not go too warm golden will pull red unless it is a golden neutral that gives warmth without excess. As I said try to find a sally beauty supply they can help.
Good luck.
