Gray hair - Trying to let it go completely gray

I am almost completely gray, but I have had it colored for years. It is usually and nice blonde. I am trying to let it go gray, but it looks terrible, even though I have a very light blonde on it now. What can I do so it doesn't look so bad in the interim. I am not even sure I can handle the gray yet.
