Hair colour goes too dark

by Jo-Anne Smith
(Canada)

I suppose this is a common complaint but when I colour my hair at home it is too dark. I have mousy brown hair with a little grey to cover up and I would like it to be just a nice chestnut brown. Can you recommend a product and colour? Thanks so much for any help you may have for me. Jo-Anne

L'oreal Diacolor - Salon Professional

For home colouring, L'Oreal Natural Match has a reddish chestnut colour, but it give you good result as long as your current hair is light brown with some red tone in it. There are others manufacture that offers similar chestnut colours, but the truth is that these products only enhance your natural color by adding some pigments to your existing base. You won't be able to get that nice and vibrant chestnut colour your want at home with drugstore products.

For salon professional colouring, I recommend L'oreal Diacolor. Since you have some grey hair to cover, then you need a base colour mix into it. A combination of brown and chestnut are mixed together before application. But this is not something you can do at home. Talk to your stylist and let them do this for you.
