Hair colour problem - Green streaks hair

by Val Newman
(Bristol, England)

A friend of mine has coloured her hair for the last few months with a l'oreal hair lightening kit. Its the one where you put colour on then do highlights all in the same kit, she now finds she has green streaks in her hair can you tell me why this is happening and what she can do about it . Thank you for your help.

Maintenance problem
by: N.F.

I will assume this is a maintenance problem and the lightening process itself was successfully done and she had perfectly blonde highlights but then it started to fade and turn green in time. This is not unusual for a blond or highlighted hair to turn green, if not maintained with care. Its mostly caused by heavy metals like copper or iron that exists in water (swimming in chlorinated water is a good example) and if hair is damaged then its more vulnerable to these pollutants.

First step - Your friend must remove these heavy metals by using an special clarifying shampoo like "Redken Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo". OR As home remedy, she can use a low PH value shampoo and mix it with Camomile tea and lemon juice and see if that helps to rinse off those greens.

Second step - She must now try to use a activating shampoo for blond hair. These shampoos contain colour particles that helps to put some shine back into her existing blonde hair. She can either choose to buy a professional product from hair salon (more effective and high concentrated) or choose a less expensive from Boots or local supermarket. L?Oreal, Kérastase or John Freida Blonde Sheer are as good as any.

Using above options does not mean she get her perfect blonde highlight back, but it will help to reduce that green effect and add some shine back into it.

Gold Toner
by:

If you got green tint in your white blond hair because of pollution, swimming or some other reasons then try to use a gold toner to counteract the effect of green.
