What I would do to achieve this look is a little bit different and it works on my hair and I hope you find it helpful to. Anyway I don't do this style just after i've washed it, i do it the day after so their is natural oil in my hair but not full on grease.

I then straighten it and tease a few section's mostly at the roots but not too much. I add a thin coating of hairspray and some texture styling spray to add some texture then it's complete.

For the actual cut style I'd recommend taking a picture to the your hairstylist and explain how you want it a choppy shoulder length style then show her the picture.
