How to Colour Red Hair a Natural Looking Blonde?

by Sarah Jane
(Cannes, France)

I have naturally dark blonde hair and I coloured it red. I don't like it and want to change it back. I went to the hairdressers and they put a really dark brown on top of the red, you can still see some red coming through but most of it has washed out of the ends. Is my only option bleaching it? to get it back to my natural colour?

Any advice you can offer would be great!!
Thanks alot,
Sarah Jane

Coloring red hair to blonde

You will have a difficult time because red is a color that fades out fast yet it is the most difficult to remove if that makes sense. It is due to all natural hair has some red pigments. Since your naturally dark blonde, your own hair will have some natural pigments of red.

The best thing to do is let it fade out. You can help it along by washing your hair with dawn dish soap. Use this a few times, not all at once but maybe 2 times a week, then wash with your regular shampoo and be sure you condition with a good conditioner after other wise it will dry the hair out. Try this for 2 weeks it should fade quite a bit.

As far as going up from brown, I do not know If you are dark blonde naturally. You can go up two levels or three at the most like dark blonde to medium is one level, light blonde two levels. Take into consideration your color the stylist gave you which you said to be brown. If it is dark brown, you can go up to a light brown ect..

Dark hair or reds are very hard to lift. This may be a professionals job, but in the mean time you can start fading it out. Take a break from the dish soap though like I said 2 times a week at the most but do this for only the first week then check it. Do not do this for more then 2 weeks or your hair will be very very dry.
