Keratin Hair Treatment - Severe Reaction!

I was sitting in the waiting room of my hair salon and a woman near me was receiving the Keratin treatment. Within 3 minutes I started having severe pressure in my throat which moved into my jaw and ear and subsequently resulted in severe heart pain. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated with Nitro Glycerin.

In discussing this with the hospital cardiologist and later with my personal cardiologist they both agree that my symptoms were probably initiated by the fumes which resulted in vaso spasm (the condition which I am under treatment for) and the resultant heart pain. Fortunately I had no damage and I now carry around the spray Nitro Glycerin rather than the pills (I had taken a nitro pill and it had little effect. The symptoms only eased after the EMT treated me with spray nitro.)

I'm Sorry to hear what happen to you. I couldn't help myself not to post a comment here. Lets put aside for a moment the fact that this Brazilian Keratin Treatment produces some dangerous fumes and can be harmful to health and lets focus on the responsibility of that hair salon that practices this business without installing a proper ventilation system. I am chocked to hear that!!

Regardless of treatment, hair coloring, perming , etc... every hair salon that carry chemical treatment, should be equipped with a very powerful ventilation system and if they can't install one, then they should close the shop and open a Restaurant and not a Hair Salon. At least smell of food won't kill you.

Next time, step into a salon that have more respect for wellbeing of their client rather than their pocket.

I don't blame Brazilian Keratin products for this! Because even smell of perm lotions could cause a similar reaction to those with heart problem. The fault is on the owner of the salon.

If that Salon was here in Denmark, it would be close down by government by now (Or probably never get the chance to open one in first place) They don't joke about these things.

I have a good friend that went against what I belived. she did the bkt not once but twice first time did't take. she brake out in sweat shortly after.
