Keratin Treatment - Knowledge Doesn't Equate To Honesty

by Haircoach

Hairdressers, Distributors, & Salons were warned about the extreme formaldehyde poisoning of all these Brazilian Blow Outs & Keratin Hair Treatments, they were all aware of FDA non regulation and the absolute untruths that the manufacturer's labeling & producing these treatments were claiming.

Some good stylist & salons forbid such services but most others ignored all warnings and health risks and poisoned themselves, their clients, and entire salon for the pure greed of the almighty profit margin. As I warned hairdressers and clients of this toxic poisoning, many expressed a humorous disbelief and dismissed all warnings with a silly smirk.

There has been an open knowledge of such dangers for almost a year and there has been an open disregard by stylists, salons, & even clients of the obvious dangers of performing and receiving these life threatening services. How pathetic that these Hair Professionals and Brazilian Blow Out & Keratin Hair Treatment Companies claim St anytime that they had a lack of knowledge of or believed the formaldehyde free/safe labeling and claims.

They all deserve to be sued over and over again because they all lied, ignored, mislabeled, misrepresented, and misled innocent parties while knowingly poisoning people!

Absolute Rubbish!
by: Braz Fab

Who wrote this article? A hacked off salon owner or product manufacturer who still hasn't managed to bringf this treatment to the market?

'Some good salons forbid this treatment...' Why?

Now I know the United States is pretty poor at regulating anything that you can make a buck on, but your argument is way off mark.

For a start, most Brazilian Blowout products are perfectly safe to use - especially the ones that ARE NOT PRODUCED in the US. (As I said, regulation there simply isn't thorough enough to keep an eye on producers)

For example, products like Escova Progressiva, as Brazilian Blowout is called in Brazil, are not allowed to contain dangerous chemicals such as Formaldehyde (and there are other equally dodgy substances around by the way).
The use of Formaldehyde is outlawed in Brazil, which is bizarre when you consider what many people are being told to the contrary.

The author says 'How pathetic that these Hair Professionals and... Companies claim that they had a lack of knowledge of or believed the formaldehyde free/safe labeling and claims'

More craziness. While you may believe that labelling can mislead, I'm struggling to agree. If a product prints untrue information regarding ingredients on its packaging its in big trouble here in Brazil. Isn't that the case in America too?

So your accusation of mislabelling is both false and potentially libellous. I'm not personally concerned. I use a product that plainly prints ingredients on the bottle and guess what? I believe they're telling the truth.

In fact I know they do. It's here that I should declare an interest, as I own a company selling Brazilian hair proiducts, and I've actually been personally involved with compnaies producing these treatments in Brazil.

I've seen with my own eyes how tight the regulations are on these manufacturers, and the last thing I suspect they would do is lie about what's going into the bottle. After all, they're running huge companies with reputations to protect. (Again something that must be more important in Brazil than in America, if your article is to be believed)

OK, I'm rambling,forgive me...
But do be careful about what you write on blogs and forums.

It's true there have been problems, and that Formaldehyde has been used in Brazilian Blowout products in the past, but with a little work it's very easy to find excellent products which are completely safe to use, either at home or in a salon, applied by professionals...

Brazilian Straightening Owner Spewing Propaganda.....No Doubt!
by: Anonymous

By the time these straightening products are outlawed and the lawsuits are flying high, this business owner, LLP, incorporated smuck will be long gone with his unlocatable pocketed profits and the sick people will be up the creek without a paddle. Don't try to make me drink your kool-aid and I would recommend you watch what you write in blogs and forums....silly! Do you really believe the public is so detached, that your feebleness about other countries having better regulation than the US is close to believable? HA

OSHA to chemically analyze this product
by: Haircoach

CROET requested consultative services through Oregon OSHA to chemically analyze these products. An original container was delivered to Oregon OSHA for analysis.

Test results demonstrated that the product contains 4.85% formaldehyde. The product also was found to contain methanol, ethanol, beta hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate, and hexadecanol.

Formaldehyde is classified as a probable human carcinogen and mutagen. Formaldehyde is also corrosive and can severely irritate or damage the skin, mouth, eyes and throat. Formaldehyde may cause a skin allergy and an asthma-like allergy.

Employers who expose employees to this chemical are subject to the OSHA Formaldehyde Standard requiring training, air monitoring, personal protective equipment to prevent exposure, and in some cases, medical surveillance.

OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard also requires any employer with employees working with hazardous materials to provide effective training and accurate material safety data sheets to identify hazardous materials and how to prevent exposure. If a product contains more than 0.1% formaldehyde, OSHA requires the manufacturer to list it on the material safety data sheet.

CROET is awaiting analytical results for a product named Acai Professional Smoothing Solution (formaldehyde free) originally shipped by Brazilian Blowout on 8/12/2010.

We will report on the analytical finding for this sample as we receive it.

Incredible

Incredible.
It sounds like the Wild West is still safe and well in your part of the world.
Isn't it the job of regulators and authorities in your country to control the use of dangerous chemicals in products that can be sold to the public.

I think in some ways we may be ahead of the curve here in Brazil, partly because of a protective government and partly because the demand for effective hair products is so huge...

In Brazil it simply wouldn't be allowed to sell a product containing chemicals that are so dangerous.

The advice I'd offer is to stay safe and always read the label.

Still confused
by: Anonymous

As I sit here an research which BKT to use and read the endless blogs, I have come to the conclusion that most stylist fail to do their homework and instead chose to copy someone else's. The information is out there and relatively easy to find.

I'm still not totally convinced that the products from Brazil are totally safe. However, I am convinced they are safer than those in the US. My reasoning for this is i do believe they have stricter standards in Brazil. They've been using the product longer and have found serious side effects ,including death, which in turn led them to have to regulate the product. It took Brazil 7 years to figure this out blindly an I think maybe we should trust them here in the US. Or we can just be stubborn or stupid and wait till we hurt enough people to figure it out on our own.

A smart man learns from his mistakes ,where a wise man learns from others mistakes.
