I am the new marketing director for a stylist and her web site and I am in the process of of remaking her treatment page. I have researched over 25 products both BKT (Brazilian keratin treatment) and just Keratin Treatments.
Yes a lot of companies manufacturing products under the BKT process do sell product containing Formaldehyde, but there are BKT products that do not contain Formaldehyde.
Has any one looked into the Coppola keratin Treatment. It contains 2% aldehyde. Please note that Aldehyde and Formaldehyde are to different compounds.
formaldehyde = chemical compound
aldehyde = organic compound
If you research these 2 compounds you will note the significant differences.
It is true the FDA does not regulate these products so you will need to do your own research as to weather products containing either of these 2 compounds is safe at any level's, or in combination with other proteins such as keratin or even flavorings such as vanilla found in one keratin product.
I also have video taped many treatments being preformed all aldehyde based. I have seen no ill affects to either stylist or client such as toxic fumes, burning of the eyes, vomiting, skin burning or permanent hair damage as I have found written all over the web.
Good luck in your search.
