Moody curls - Loopy at the tips but wavy at the roots

once my hair is in a ponytail you can actually see how wavy my hair is

My curls are loopy at the tips but wavy at the roots so my hair is very poofy. I didn't know how to tame my hair and make it look classy and chic so I ended up getting a relaxer...BIG MISTAKE!!!

The first two perms I got really helped my hair stay manageable but the third one took out most of my hair. So after going through that I went natural again but I still didn't know of any styles that would work well with my face so I just wore weave 24/7.

Well I ended up becoming friends with a girls who had the same hair type as me and she told me after I wash my hair to use leave in conditioner and apply a small amount of gel through out my hair. I've been doing that lately and it really has helped. My hair is softer and the curls are more separated and they look like curls not poofs.
