Red-Brown to Light Mousy Ash Brown - How to Color?

I HATE this color. I want a mousy light ash brown color.

I HATE this color. I want a mousy light ash brown color.

I have naturally dark ash blonde hair. I have been dying it for 10 years. Last year I had it platinum blonde. Since then, I cut most of it off and dyed it medium warm brown. Now it is a layered and it is red-brown.

I want to eventually get back to my natural color. Should I do highlights? I want to keep my hair healthy. Or, should I just keep dying it ash tones to make the red go away? I have naturally curly hair and it is dry. I want shine, softness, and a natural looking mousy color.

Coloring, red brown to light ash brown
by: Tara

I hope I'm not late posting...there's no date anywhere.
Since light Ash brown is only two or three shades lighter, it should be easy for you. If you have patience, go with an ash brown and then for the next coloring, choose the light ash brown.
Experts say it's always best to step down by color and not leap over a couple of shades.

However, if you can't wait and want to immediately switch to light ash brown, it's not going to be that exact color if you use a light ash brown coloring kit. It will probably take at least two times of coloring to get rid of the reddish tones. You'll notice better results if you do the medium ash brown first. :)

Don't forget to deep condition! Before you wash your hair coat your hair in thick conditioner. Cover it with a plastic shower cap and sit under a dome hair dryer or walk around the house with it on for at least 30 minutes.

To prevent further damage to your hair, use a Sulfate-free conditioner and shampoo. Sulfate strips the scalp of the essential oils and natural moisture it needs.
Hope this helped ;)
