Scary???

by Carmen
(Miami, FLorida, USA)

I had the Keratin treatment on a Friday afternoon, (maybe a coincidence) but when completed it was about 6pm, went to dinner and got home at around 9:30pm that evening. I went to bed and around 11:45pm my son was calling Fire Rescue because he witness me having what appeared to be a seizure.

During the almost 2 hour process never was I offered a mask, I was placed in an enclosed room with hardly no ventilation and the hair stylist didn't wear a mask either.

Maybe a coincidence but after reading some comments regarding the ingredients of possibly too much formaldehyde, now I am really concerned. Especially if this is being performed on kids????

More investigation into this product should be conducted prior to its continued use.

CAN NOT DECIED
by: EMAN

I have a curly hair and three kids. I want to try the BKT, but Iam too worry please I need some honest advice.

no way!

The formaldehyde in it causes cancer, and apparently to this woman, a seizure. It's too risky and unhealthy. You have kids! u have a life! be healthy and happy w. what u have. im sure ur hair isnt THAT hideous.

Devastated
by: Angela

The only reason I had the BKT done was to gain control over my intense curls and the volume/size of my hair. My hair was healthy. My hair was to my shoulder blades. It is now at my shoulders and I am terribly afraid due to all the split ends I have no choice but to go to the neck!!! Do you know what this will do for curly hair??? My hair has never been so damaged! It is a HUGE mistake. I will never do it again.

BKT Terrible Treatment
by: Lelli

Honestly, I did the BKT on 10/31. By Dec I noticed a patch of hair in the back of my head missing while I was blow drying, and after paying closer attention to my hair it has been falling out like crazy. I will never do this treatment again, or recommend it to anyone, don't bother the aftermath stress is just not worth it. My hair still hasn't gone back to its normal state and were almost in April!

do not do the brazilian keratine treatment

I to have had the bkt treatment, the first time it was great and the second time, done in Sept 08 was a disater, I have been loosing hair ever since I have lost about 50% of my hair, I have been busy with doctors etc and not sure how much longer this will carry on for but am really very scared that I might have to wear a wig, how long will it take for the hair to grow back.

Not just BKT
by: Anonymous

I had the "Coppolla" treatment. Same effects that I am reading about with BKT. My hair has bee falling out for three weeks, I have lost 30% of my hair. It is not breaking. I can see the root ball. I am using Phyto serum to neutralize it.

My hair was long and layered and thick. It is so thin now, I will be getting six inches cut. I am afraid to wash it, comb it, brush it, touch it to aggravate the hair loss. I can feel it falling on my arms, just by walking or watching tv. Also, it is sooo damaged. The strands which were once thick, are very thin and wirey.

At the end of the week I will be seeing my family doctor. I am terrified that i will eventually be bald. I had thick, long, gorgeous hair, but not the patience to flat iron it. What a mistake!

Salon owners should be more responsible for the health and safety of clients and staff
by: Anonymous

I am a stylist and performed this treatment, believing it to be formaldehyde free.
The salon owner never checked the safety of this product and no one wore masks...the ventilation at the time was poor in our salon.

After doing my own research I found out this did have formaldehyde...above the health organisations limit.

Since doing these treatments I suffered headaches nausea, then asthma type problems. But only when in the salon, after that I was got the worst headache of my life for weeks and couldn't stop vomiting, then double vision.

I have no doubt this was brought on by performing this treatment under poorly ventilated and poor safety procedures not only for myself but to the client.

I live in a country where I have no legal ground for this, but unless salons do those safely it should not be allowed.

This has had a huge impact on my health for the last 6 months and hospital stays, which then mean no wages as I don't get paid when not working. I will never work in a salon that does these treatments again.
