Sunpure Straight Keratin Treatment

I am a hairdresser and I have been using Sunpure Straight Brazilian Keratin Treatment. I've done a dozen or so treatments. I think this is a safe service. I checked the ingredients and called the manufacturers. As with all services I perform in the salon I am careful as to breathing in the fumes or contact with skin for my clients and myself. Because it uses Vanillin as a aldehyde and other natural ingredients like apple pulp it takes more time and work to apply into the hair, where as the stronger chemicals help melt the keratin into hair easier and faster.

No one yet has complained about it. It softens and conditions and makes the hair less frizzy and more manageable. I believe this treatment has no formaldehyde and I nor any clients I've done has had any adverse reactions to it.

If it's too good to be true - it has a side effect!

As much as I always wanted straight hair, I was apprehensive about having it done. Well, I should have listened to my gut. My hair looked wonderful after the first treatment but after the second, I "thought" the sides of my hair looked a little shorter - after the third treatment I noticed that the crown of my hair was shorter - hairdresser said I was nuts. Had it done for the fourth time and now it is SHORT - can no longer pull it back into a pony tail - it looks like it has broken exactly where the ponytail elastic would have been. I used all of Sun Pure's products, washed it only twice a week, did not flat iron after the initial flat-ironing session - did everything by the book. Now I have gone out to the Internet to see the hundreds of complaints being made. I am lucky, many, many, many woman have had hair come out by the handfull and have bald spots. My hair is badly broken and a little thinner.

My hair dresser knows there is something wrong but won't admit it (it would kill his business) but there must be something to the fact that Oregon and Canada are pulling it off the shelves. Not just this product but all others and their are talks of class actions suits.

Ladies do your homework. Just because your trusted hairdresser of years tells you it is good - it isn't. By the way, there were 5 months in between each treatment - I really have tried to not abuse my hair just devastated to know that I will no longer have straight hair.

I contacted Sun Pure and they told me they NEVER had a complaint. Sorry, but I wasn't born yesterday. Maybe they have a bridge for sale?

Application problem, not product

If your hair is breaking and/or falling out with this product, I strongly feel its in the application, not the product itself. I have used Sunpure 6 times now, and my hair is beautiful. I am getting compliments everyday and I'm 55 yrs. old!! I did alot of research, this is one of the few very safe products I found. Try someone new, another salon completely would be best. Good Luck!

Won't admit it??

If your stylist won't admit to an obvious problem and tells you that you are crazy...you need a new stylist. Not now but right now! Your stylist seems more concerned with making money than with haircare.

Excessive Keratin Causes Breakage
by: Margo

I believe most stylists know this, but I thought I'd say so anyway. Excessive keratin can cause breakage and these treatments absolutely should not be applied to the scalp.

Because of this, I am opting for a treatment that is both keratin and formaldehyde free called f45o Amino Fusion Smoothing Treatment by Thermafuse. It's something totally different. Everyone I've spoken to has great results with it. They say that it does smell bad for a while and that it can strip color. But I don't color so I'm not worried about that. And those who do color said it wasn't too bad but that you should wait for a week after the treatment to apply color. Anyway, I'm still researching and I advise everyone to do that about any treatment they are considering, whether it be for your hair or any other part of your body - but the hair is where the most damaging and dangerous products are used.

So in your case - to the girl who experienced problems with the SunPure- it was most likely an application problem. But be aware that keratin can cause breakage and that it should NEVER be applied to the skin. I hope you are recovering quickly from your ordeal! Take care!
