The Truth About Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatment

(Toronto)

The first couple of posts were bashing Keratin Complex. Don't listen to people who don't know what they are talking about.

Keratin Complex uses ALDEHYDES. Aldehydes are in EVERYTHING. They are preservatives. They are in chewing gum, on fruit to keep it shinny. Aldehydes are even in perfumes. So what happens when FORMAL is activated with an aldehyde? It becomes dangerous and damaging to hair.

There are FORMAL and ALDEHYDES in Keratin Complex. The reason why Formaldehyde is never activated is because of the liquid accelerator Benzoquinol! Benzoquinol is what is stinging these peoples eyes. All Benzo is is an accelerator (that is exclusive to Coppola) that pulls all of the keratin treatment into the cuticle( whatever it can hold) and the rest lies on top of the cuticle and gets burned off when flat ironing.

The reason why you are seeing smoke come off your iron is because you don't know how to apply the product properly, go get re-trained. You are putting too much treatment on the hair.

Why do you think the product costs for the Brazilian Keratin and Japanese straighteners are so low? Because they do not have advanced technologies in the product, its full of chemicals that are damaging and breaking bonds in the hair. Brazilian keratin and Kerasmooth have 1-3% keratin protein. Keratin Complex has 42% keratin protein.

So if you don't know what you're talking about then don't post at all.

You have no idea!

You have no idea what you are talking about!!!! I had it done 4 months ago and my hair starting falling out 3 months ago. IT IS BECAUSE OF THE TREATMENT done to my hair!!!!!!! We are not stupid women. We know what our hair is doing. Yes I agree that it will work on some people and have great results but it DOES NOT WORK ON EVERYONE! Go on the Internet and do some research. Thousands of women are having the same reaction. It is not in our heads. How dare you tell us we don't know what we are talking about. Your hair isn't falling out OURS IS!.

Kerasmooth treatment
by: stacey

I had the Kerasmooth treatment done to my hair only 7 days ago. I have washed it for the first time and not blow dried. It is a messy, dry and awful looking shaggy style. So I once had a beautiful curl and was told by the stylist that my hair would turn out silky, smooth and relax the curl. What I have is the complete opposite. When she did my hair, it only took 7 min., I questioned her on this and she sounded like she knew what she was talking about.

I am sooooo angry about the result of my hair and wish I never had it done in the first place. My advice is go see a reputable hair salon in the first place and research research research.

Allergic reaction to bull*** ???

I think that with anything, there are of course going to be people out of an estimated 300,000,000 alone in the U.S (I think that figures right, correct me if I'm wrong), that will suffer from a bad reaction. However, it is a much safer product than other Chemical straighteners out there that break the di-sulphide bonds of your hair and of course can result it physical illness. I'm not saying that Keratin Complex is perfect but things as harmless as peanuts, milk, fake jewellery or even pollen can give people the most severe reactions where as for someone like me.. it has no effect so you've definitely got to account for a percentage of people that may react and you can't blame the product - it's the nature of the beast :)

Keratin Complex

First day after having treatment done at a reputable salon.......my hair looks smooth and feels soft. I am just out of my bed and it is still looking good. Get it washed in few days so will see what it looks like after that....but right now it looks great and feels great. No allergic reactions, slight smell whilst being blow dried but nothing to complain about. Will post again after first wash.

I've been a hair dresser for 9 years and I love the Coppola Keratin. Hey people out there with "breakage" ever think it was your un-experienced hair dresser! I've seen some crazy things and I know for a fact that stylist say they are using a product and then switch for the cheap stuff! It cost over $300 for 1 bottle of this stuff. So if your hair is falling out then i guess you just got scammed because it wasn't Coppola!

There is no formaldehyde in Keratin Complex formula.
by: Anonymous

Unlike what is popularly believed, Keratin Complex treatment does not contain formaldehyde! It contains Timonacic acid, or thiazolidine 4 carboxylic acid. This acid is a condensate product of formaldehyde and cysteine in keratin, just like water is made from oxygen and hydrogen, and is not hydrogen, or oxygen. Google "what is timonacic acid" and see what it is. The cysteine component is attached to the hair by an exchange reaction that allows the cysteine to bond through sulphur bonds to hair cystein (keratin) Then, the carboxylic group of the acid (some say it is formaldehyde but it is not) bonds to more free cystein in their solution to form more timonacic acid, a great conditioning agent.
When the solution is tested, the formaldehyde is broken away from the timonacic acid, and seen as formaldehyde. These tests are wrong, and the labs have admitted it. It is really unfair to say that the keratin complex formula has formaldehyde.

No one knows for sure what's in these products
by: Give me a break

The FDA doesn't test these products, so there is no independent verification of your claims. Given that several HAVE turned out to contain dangerous levels of formaldehyde, I'm not going to accept anything some anonymous poster presents.

Furthermore, it's clear from the language you use that you are some sort of professional chemist. Or are parroting language from one. Do you expect the consumer to have that level of technical knowledge, so they can judge whether a product is safe or not?
Most people don't know enough about chemistry to even understand what you said, much less evaluate the veracity of the information.

Don't attack people who are rightly suspicious. If the government would test these products and inform the public as they ought to, it would put a stop to all this b.s. and rumor.
