What do I do? - Very thick hair

I have very thick hair and i straighten it all the time, but i need a change, my hair is long and brown, and i'm thinking about going short, maybe like an inch above my shoulders. The only thing im worried about is it getting poofy and going out since its so thick, i don't know what to do.
Making thick hair manageable

I think that you have a great idea. You must go to a real good salon that will be a key factor, then cut your hair to clear your shoulders and have stylist do layers and lots of texturizing to remove volume, you still can wear longer bangs and use a relaxer if needed , finnish style with flat iron and product for shine, you will love it.

There shouldn't be any problem. Let your hairdresser know about your problem and he/she will thin-out your hair to remove the bulk and it will stay flat and straight. That's the solution for thick hair. Also ask your stylist to show you couple of tricks on how to style and what product to use after the new haircut.
I agree with previous answer. Removing the weight from inside the hair and adding some longer layers is --in general-- the best choice for thick hair. It makes the hair lighter and manageable and allow hair to have more movement.
